Thursday of this week was another stellar day here on Forrestel Farm! The morning was beautifully cool, so the campers got to enjoy their rides and other activities without the struggle of the hot sun. In the first activity session we had a number of campers learning to both canter and jump, so it was a morning of progress for a great group of riders!
The afternoon got a bit warmer, so the campers were given the opportunity to go on a canoe trip – another first for the summer! The sun made for a beautiful afternoon on the river and, through a few splashes and tips, the girls and sports counselors alike had a fantastic time in their canoes.
The evening brought yet another first for the camp season: our first overnight! Here at Forrestel, within every two-week session, the campers are given the opportunity to spend a night in the woods at our overnight site near the pond. The girls ride out on to the site on the farm’s trails after dinner, and upon arrival, take care of their horses and make s’mores over their own fire! In the morning, the girls and their counselors ride back to camp in time for lunch and rest hour. The first group of campers left yesterday evening and arrived this morning with rave reviews about spending the night with their horses and we are eager to send another group out next week!
Stay tuned for more stories!
